One thing that I don't understand is why pr how can they invest those millions of dollars and not have an air conditioning system that can't remove all the smoke? That alone would keep me away. |

Governor Riley responds to Houston County Commissioner
Dothan Eagle: January 12, 2010
MONTGOMERY – Governor Bob Riley on Tuesday responded to a letter sent by Houston County Commissioner Mark Culver about the Country Crossing gambling facility outside Dothan. The Governor’s letter to Commissioner Culver is attached.
In it, Governor Riley writes that a duly elected judge in Houston County issued a search warrant for the gambling operations at Country Crossing based upon evidence uncovered by a law enforcement investigation. Based on that evidence, the judge found that there was probable cause to believe that illegal gambling was taking place at Country Crossing.
“Law enforcement officials were preparing to execute that duly issued search warrant when you and others obtained a temporary restraining order. That order was issued in the middle of the night without any effort having been made to allow representatives of my Task Force to present counterarguments. Your lawyers yesterday admitted that the temporary restraining order was illegally issued,” the Governor writes in his letter to Culver.
“While I want to engage in a civil dialogue with you and others in Houston County about these issues, I cannot agree to allow illegal activity at Country Crossing to continue indefinitely until the litigation that you filed runs its course,” Governor Riley wrote. “It would be a dangerous precedent to allow the filing of a civil case to frustrate the ability of State officials to enforce our criminal laws.”

Looks like Gov Riley's actions & comments towards Country Crossing are making other businesses in Alabama nervous. The Cruise ship in Mobile is afraid he may try to use the same tactics to raid their machines. He sure could cost alot of people their jobs if these businesses choose to go elsewhere.

Hey Blue,You know,I think Riley is a lil nerveous as well.Nothing is illeagal with the machines at Country Crossings. They are the same as Atmore, and Victoryland, only difference is,Riley has ties to Mississippi, and the VL and Atmore, his son-in-law is their attorney at the Atmore bingo...Something that his task force chief had to resign, gambling in Mississippi.Riley gets big bucks from Mississippi.I have been 3 times to C.C.s,its nice, has alot of class, just a nice place.Lastnight was wonderful. |

Friday, Jan 29, 2010 @10:03am CST "This is an outrageous waste of limited state resources designed to kill thousands of jobs for working Alabamians," Sparks said. "We need to be using the state's resources to protect our jobs and create new ones. This insanity needs to stop and instead of spending money to take jobs away we need to be taxing gaming to educate our children. The state is broke and we are wasting money to kill jobs at a time of 11 percent unemployment. When I'm governor I will encourage, not discourage, job growth in Alabama and make sure our kids get the education and care they deserve." I am ashamed of our Gov. 300 + Alabama State Troopers, they make about $20.00 per hour, Overtime makes that $30.00 per hour. 2 - 4 hours travel time to get to Country Crossing, 2 - 4 hours travel time to get back home. 4 - 5 hours at Country Crossing. The were told to be prepaird to stay for 5 days! The math is overwhelming! When they say, "We are broke" or, "We are going to lay-off Teachers", I say LIER. I bet that the dope dealers are having a heyday! Just stay off US 231! Haul all you want! No DUI'S no one cares if someone is drunk on the highways! I think we have the Stupidist man for Gov. He should be Impeached, before sunrise!

Why is it that the Goverment elected "For the people & By the people" thinks it is Above The People!!!!!!! Riley's boys have decided to attempt a raid of several business establishments without attaining the proper paperwork (a search warrant). If I as John Q. Citisen attempts to do that it is called Burglary. Are we suspose to look the other way when the Gov does it? |

I think Riley is commiting political suicide. I know he is a Lame Duck and is not eligible for this years Governor's Election, howeverif he had any hopes of ever holding another office, one would think he would leave this alone. I find it hard to believe that Country Crossing would of been built without their Lawyers researching this thoroughly to see if it was legal. Furthermore the people want this here and the Jobs it creates. Why is he coming down and fighting this now. He should of stopped it before it started if he honestly felt that it was illegal. |

It's all about jobs! How dare Bob Riley for putting these people out of work! It's all about jobs! Bull*%@#! IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY!!! Everyone arguing for the gaming industry is either connected to the money or has bought in to the pitch delivered by the gaming investors. The politicians in Houston County have been captured. Mark Culver... bought and paid for. Even Harri Anne Smith, who seemed like such a sweet banker's daughter with values and conservative ideals has been taken by the political pressure and opportunity for money and influence. It's easy to like someone and be influenced by someone who is cool. Ronnie Gilley is a promoter that has the attention and favor from the country music stars that have invested their time and money with him. He seems cool! He even puts on "free" concerts and stuff... cool, man! It's ALL ABOOUT THE MONEY! I even heard sweet little 'ol Ami Pollard on the radio the other day talking down Mrs. Riley and going on about how the governor is doing something to hurt the "people" of this State. It sounded like she had gotten her talking points right off one of Rickey Stokes' commentaries. Politics is nasty! It is a shame to see nice people getting twisted around in it, as they become just as soiled as the real weasels creating the stink. Roger Bedford is one of the slickest, prettiest, stinkiest weasels in the State of Alabama. This whole gaming thing is not about creating jobs in Alabama. It about the money... the money for the fat cats and politicians.
Electronic Bingo, Gaming, Slot Machines or any such thing does not create wealth or economic prosperity for a regional area. It does not manufacture a product that can be sold or exported. It does not bring in money. It is a shift. It is a shift of money, from the masses, through a few, to one. It could be called entertainment, at best. But, we cannot entertain ourselves into prosperity. The shift of money comes from all the people, the people that are easily separated from their money. ( The people that can least afford it.) But hey, this is America, if you want to be irresponsible; you have the freedom to do it to a point. All this money that is spent is collected by the few, the ones that have "jobs". The people working for the one, the one group of investors that are making the real money think things are ok, in that they have a job. IT"S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! The few that are allowed to run the gaming make ALL the money. It's money that was ALREADY HERE. The money is already in this region. There are better ways to create tourism and generate jobs. Gaming is a monopoly concept. There can only be one 'house". The gaming business relies on politicians that will protect them from the law and competition to prosper. That means they have to pay for this protection. It's not much different than when organized crime had the major control on gaming. Now it's just called organizing your politicians. Ronnie Gilley has done a masterful job of promoting his agenda, and demonizing anyone who would try and question the legality of it. There are many who have been manipulated. Media types, politicians, and common folk alike, have been sold. There are so many different angles and viewpoints that can be argued about this subject. People on either side can look foolish doing it. Our First Lady proved that when she lowered herself by getting into a shouting contest with folks in the front yard in Montgomery. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out, but gambling is a vice. You can call it charity bingo, you can change the name to whatever you want... it's a vice. Letting just a few to have the opportunity to make a killing on a such a situtation is wrong, and not good for Alabama. |

prop·a·gan·da (prp-gnd) n. 1. The systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause or of information reflecting the views and interests of those advocating such a doctrine or cause. 2. Material disseminated by the advocates or opponents of a doctrine or cause: wartime propaganda Very Amusing! We live in a time when media is so advanced and technical, and most people are easily influenced. The video clip should speak to the fact as to how well financed the gambling lobby is. Just the fact that the governor's name has been taken to demonize him is interesting. Why is it that logical ideas and facts are not being used to debate this issue? Because logic and facts are not on the side of the gaming king pins, or the politicians. It is easier to hide a skunk with perfume than to tell you it is actually a skunk. They don't want you to see the stinking piles of your money they are capturing. |
