I bought my ticket to BamaJam for Friday night. I noticed that there had been many improvements since last year. It has gotten more commercialized and the efficiency for creating revenue has increased. I was stunned by the amount of beer sales... lots of drinking going on. The Ronnie Gilley folks have refined the venue, indeed. They even added a golf course out there! What? ..a golf course, yes. I was told that it was built to enable them to obtain some type of permit that would allow expanded hours for sale of alcohol. I don't know for sure, just rumor... what I was told. But, what I do know is that Mr. Gilley paraded his politicians out on stage to place them on display. Mr. Gilley sounded as though he may have been imbibing a bit when he got out on stage and started hooting and hollaring about how we ain't gonna talk politics out here, we can't talk politics... but in November, Harri Anne Smith, Harri Anne, Harrie Anne... then it was Terry Spicer, then Mayor Boswell. Mr Gilley was clearly feeding his own ego by showing off who he has bought and paid for. It is understandable and reasonable for the Enterprise Mayor or maybe someone from the Coffee County administration to welcome the crowd to the area, but given the situation, it did not help the Mayor. Mayor Boswell would have been better served by delivering a short professional message by video on the three hugh screens that were simulcast. This could have been done by using about three focal locations in the area as a backdrop, and giving a welcome message and urge for safety. It would have represented the City of Enterprise better than coming out on Ronnie Gilley's leash.
