Quoting From their own page: "What We DoThe goal of CoBridge is to purchase under-managed and under-marketed cable television properties that can be improved OVER TIME and bring these communities the latest in voice, video and broadband services"

Perhaps all will work out, but it's too late for them to regain my busiiness. Charter Corp. (not locals) run what was once a good sytem into the ground - and lost my business.

Best of luck to you all.

The good thing I know I see is Troy Cable running cable and equipment up my street for several weeks now, and supposed to be fully operational within a month or so. Approximately 28 HD channels, HD DVR boxes, before this college football season is over -- needless to say they have my phone number already. I'll soon be turning in my 4 cable boxes to whomever is manning the desks at whichever company has their sign up at charter when I get there.

The Dothan Eagle has an article in this morning's edition saying that Charter's future is uncertain.  What is disturbing to me is that the City of Troy has already been informed of a Cobridge take over there.  The Ozark leaders are quoted as saying they have not been informed of anything.  Makes you wonder if they are going to write off the Ozark portion of the Cobridge buyout.  Particularly since the recent announcement of the very large grant to improve internet connectivity in Dale County using Troy Cable.

The Dothan Eagle article can be read online at their web site.

Yeah, I saw the article, but have no idea why she wrote it. There have been no attempts by The Dothan Eagle or the city to contact the local office. I don't really know what else to say about it.

I think it is a failure on three sides. Ozark for not inquiring, Charter for not informing, and Cobridge for not informing. I understand that this has gone through, but we the customers have not been informed of anything either. They still advertise for us to sign up for a 2 year deal and reduce what we pay per month. Hey I would be willing to sign up if I knew the agreement would be null and void the moment Cobridge takes over just to reduce my bill.

Ozark officals should be aware that Charter is operating on a month to month agreement with the city. Niether the The Dothan Eagle or the City of Ozark have attempted to contact anyone locally.

Little – if anything – is known by Ozark leaders about the future of the town's Charter Communications cable service after at least one neighboring city got news that the company has sold some of its Alabama franchises.

Ozark officials said Charter had yet to sign another franchise agreement since the expiration of the agreement last fiscal year.

While Charter Spokesman Skip James said this summer that the company planned to stay in the Ozark area and compete with Troy Cable, some of Charter's Alabama franchises – including one in Troy – have been transferred to Cobridge Telecom LLC or Cobridge Communications.

James did not return phone calls for comment as to whether such would be the case for Ozark.

Ozark Information Technology Director Larry Minton said Ozark had yet to receive word of Cobridge's intent to locate in Ozark or of Charter's wishes to continue its franchise.

"All that we know is what we've heard from Troy and that was that they had updated their franchise agreement with the new company," Minton said.

Charter Communications has served Ozark residents for more than a decade. Ozark Mayor Billy Blackwell said it was "unusual" that the company had yet to sign the agreement.

According to Charter's website, the company filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in March 2009 but said it emerged after a restructuring in November.

The cable company remains the fourth-largest cable operator in the U.S. with around 5.5 million residential and business customers in 27 states, according to its website.

According to Cobridge Communication's website, the company has customers in Arkansas, Alabama, Texas, Missouri, Georgia, Louisiana and Ohio.

Cobridge provides high speed data, telephone and business class services and seeks to purchase "under-managed and under-marketed" cable television communities that can be improved over time, according to the website.

Contact information for a company representative was not available.

I have nothing bad to say about Troycable. Cobridge is giving us all the things we have been asking for a long time, and Ozark will soon have 2 competative cable companies. I'll put our tech's up against any in the country though. They are all very dedicated to what they do, and I'm very proud they work for us. I hope when the transition happens everyone that is with us will give us the chance to show them how good we can be given the backing of a great company.

For those interested I found the following at a blog at this address "http://charter-communications.com/b...tions.aspx"

Charter to sell 36 systems to CoBridge?

CoBridge Communications CEO Scott Widham said this morning that his company would close on its deal to purchase 36 systems from Charter Communications in about two weeks.

The 36 systems are located in seven states, but Widham said he wasn't able to provide the number of subscribers in the systems or the price CoBridge is paying until the purchase is finalized.

While the deal is under a nondisclosure agreement with Charter, CoBridge has been in discussions with government officials in the cities it plans to serve Click here!. CoBridge Communications currently serves 65,000 subscribers in Arkansas, Alabama, Texas, Missouri, Georgia, Louisiana and Ohio.

In August, Charter confirmed it had 10,000 to 11,000 subscribers in the suburbs around Benton, Ark., in a system that is being sold to CoBridge. Other systems that are included in the deal include the suburbs of Little Rock, Ark., and Corpus Christi, Texas, as well as the Alabama cities of Ozark and Troy. With the exception of butting heads with Troy Cablevision in Troy, Widham said CoBridge's strategy wasn't to be an over-builder.

CoBridge's stated goal "is to purchase under-managed and under-marketed cable television communities that can be improved over time." With the 36 Charter systems, Widham said CoBridge will upgrade the triple-play service offerings to customers, as well as add business-class VoIP and Ethernet-based services.

CoBridge will convert the remaining one-way systems to two-way systems and increase bandwidth through the use of digital terminal adapters for analog-to-digital conversions.

"Our strategy is to use existing housings for amplifiers and just do drop-in modules to increase bandwidth, or look at other strategies like MPEG-4 delivery codecs," Widham said. "We don't want to go in and completely rebuild systems unless they're absolutely at the end of their lives and that's the last resort."

On the DTA front, Widham mentioned that he liked Evolution Digital's offering, which would also seem to dovetail with his interest in using TiVo's platform for a whole-home DVR service. RCN and Suddenlink are both using the TiVo Premiere platform for their multi-room DVR services, while Evolution and TiVo have a partnership in place.

"We really like Evolution's platform because they have a low-cost DTA solution," Widham said. "There are also the usual suspects out there, including Motorola, Cisco, Pace, Drake and Huawei, but we like Evolution from the price standpoint and quality standpoint.

"We really like the wholesale product that TiVo has for the cable industry. The price point has come way down on those DVRs – depending on how much hardware space you want – and they offer a whole-home solution with less-expensive boxes that you can hang off of the main DVR."

CoBridge will use American Support, which was formerly known as Element Customer Core until a name change in July, to provision some of its services to the various systems.

"American Support is kind of an aggregator for smaller systems, and they use CSG Systems' platform," Widham said. "They'll do the call center and provisioning for us for video, and we'll use another provider to provision our high-speed data."

Some Charter techs part of deal
In order to implement and design its planned upgrades and new service offerings, Widham said CoBridge will be using a combination of former Charter employees, its own staff and third-party vendors.

"We are inheriting a number of technicians, chief techs, warehouse people and line techs from Charter, so they'll come over with the deal and we'll augment that with our own staff," Widham said. "We will outsource some of the design work and construction work to third parties, so it's really a combination of all three."

While CoBridge is a relatively new name in the cable industry, Widham is no stranger. He was formerly co-CEO of Broadwing Communications, which was acquired by Level 3 in 2007. Prior to joining Broadwing, Widham was the founder and CEO of Capital Cable, an MSO that owned cable systems across the U.S. and in Latin America before it was acquired by Charter.

The deal with Charter looks like a jumping off point for more deals down the road for CoBridge.

Well it has been a little over two weeks since Cobridge closed on the Charter purchase and we have not heard a word. Nothing in the mail to notify the customer. I wonder when we can expect to hear anything or see any changes?

The only information I could glean from Cobridge's own website or on the web was to expect upgrade implementation over the next 12 months. I sure hope it does not take that long. Starting to seem like no change from Charter...

You should start seeing notices in your bill. The upgrades have already been started. They are trying to make it a transition instead of just changing everything overnight. Cobridge will start being more visible in the next few weeks, and by Dec 16 is looking to be completly independent from Charter. The hope was to cause as little confusion as possible. That's why you have not yet seen a change in the signage of the offices or vehicles.

lbrtysk,

When can we expect to see upgrades to cable services? Specifically HD. Is there a plan or timetable that you can share?

lbrtysk,

Well it has been a week and no response. Either you have not checked the forums or are unwilling/can't share plans if any even exist. So far other than a change of email address I have not seen any changes from Charter. I sure hope this is not just an income source for Cobridge, without any interest in upgrading services for customers.

With the lack of information from Cobridge, if Troy cable gets to my street I will jump on the change. Every one that I have heard from that has Troy Cable is very happy...

The set top boxes should be in anytime. I would think no later than 2 weeks depending on how backed up they are in production.
