OK, so it finally happened.
I've previously been trumpeting that CenturyTel has not yet let me down. Now it has.
Sunday nite/Monday morning at midnight my DSL goes out - without warning.
I call at 0430 and am advised that it's out for scheduled maintenance/ should be back at 0500.
Still out at 0830 when I called back - and they advised me to allow several more hours.
Again calling back, now at 1330, we commenced the unplugging, rebooting sequence.
Apparently it DID finally came back- at 0930, but now I needed to reset my user name and password.
In any case, there was no notice to me, and it exceeded the "scheduled" time by a significant amount. But if it goes another 18 months without failure then I guess it'll be OK.
Speed testing reveals no changes for me,
still about 4.5M download and 750K uploads.
YMMV. |

ok i must comment.
charter has gone up on my bill twice in like 6 months. our income has lessened so i called to do some changes.
the lady was very nice and i dropped it back to extended basic and HBO & Show only b/c she gave me an UNBELIEVABLE deal if i kept those 2. i went from 10 m to 5 m on my internet.
although i really miss watching "Clean House" i'm really ok with the changes. my internet has- unreal that it seems- actually done BETTER since getting the slower speed.
now on to Carra- she really needs to tell the story but some contract guy with charter told her they couldn't move her internet connection the 6 feet required b/c they didn't make the wires that long.....uhhh....WHAT??? so sabnock and I went out and hooked her up. things like this are what gives businesses bad reps. |

| Hey Forgetful just wanted to say thanks for the kind words. We've been really busy the past few weeks and I havent had much time to comment. Its nice to hear kind words once in a while. Most people only comment when They complain. Just to let you know there is a lot of upgrading going on right now. For the most part the equipment is in place, but we will still have some maintenance that will take the plant down. Usually it will be scheduled from midnight to 6:00 am. |

| well lbtry i DID complain somewhat but charter rep was very accomodating...so i also complimented....and the thing with Carra- haha - i told her she should comment. the guy said he was from out of state so i knew it wasn't the usual crew. go figure... |

| For the record, I've had great internet service with Charter. However, they have NEVER been helpful to me any time that they have had to come to the house. There is always some reason or another as to why they can't do, whatever it was they said on the phone that they could do, when the appt. was made. They always seem to be in a hurry and not real interested. Like it or not, yes, that was a complaint. If Charter can't fix a problem they shouldn't schedule the appt. And yes, I had told the lady when I made the appt. that I needed them to install another internet connection in another room (chances are that another room would be greater than 6 feet). You would've thought that the lady would have ask if it was going to be over 6 feet, since they apparently don't have any cable over 6 feet long. |

| whatever. not really going to get into a pissing contest about this. I have stated more times than I can count if you need help call me. My number is posted. I don't get phone calls, but I get plenty of bitch sessions. Sorry your not getting good service. my advice would be to seek an alternative. Since were not smart enough to make a cable longer than 6 ft. |

well jamie if a contract guy made a stupid ass remark like that (which he did) what in all that is HOLY do you have to be po'd about? you've been way to defensive. i doubt any of us get up each morning and are so bored that we want to stir the *hit with you on the forum about charter.
NO BUSINESS IS INFALLIBLE, NO INDIVIDUAL IS INFALLIBLE. when there is a problem, then you make the problem known, and the person whom you pay for the service should take it as a personal challenge to satisfactorily explore the problem and offer solutions. If that one has an inability to solve the problem it should be passed on to someone who can look into it. now what is bitchy about that? its simple customer service.
if you go to the hospital and need an IV- i may try and not be able to get a vein. so i call someone with a better technique. if we can't start it then we let your doctor know so we can explore workable solutions. we just don't blow you off and send you home to die.

| well the bitch sessions stuff was directed at some of the other posts not carra's. I will admit that some of the contractors we have are idiots, and I'm sure I know which one said that. I just know how much work is being done and how much time is being spent to accomadate the demand for new and better services. I never said I was PO'd about anything. I was making more of a generalization not a response to her comment, with the exeption of the 6 foot cable comment. |

| Thanks Carolyn! lbrtyrsk, I didn't realize that whenever I have a problem I'm suppose to call you directly. When I called Charter that didn't share that with me. As for you getting defensive, all well. I was a little defensive and "PO'd" myself when my time was wasted. I did state that my actual internet service was great. |

Whatever. I'm done with the conversation. and yes carra you can call me directly if you need to. Carolyn has the number and it is posted in other topics about charter. If you call I will make sure the problem is resolved ask Carolyn she hates to call me directly, but when shes had to her problems were fixed. |

Jamie you can't be responsible for every decision made by charter - such as contracting out work to service people who don't live up to the expectation of the customers they serve.
i do hate to call you b/c i am like that- i don't like to impose.
anyhow i probably should have complained when they took the only music channel i ever watched -FUSE - and left me to choose between several channels of country, rap, and one spanish (i don't speak the language) but i just went on to the internet to watch the vids. such is life. |
